"I would counsel that person ..." Sarah, honey, we're not interviewing you for a counselor position. The question is about public policy and law.

"If you believe, as I do, that life begins at conception, then we are talking about two people in this scenario. The law has to protect the rights of both. It is certainly true that we must do more to support and assist young mothers, and that what you're describing would be a terrible ordeal for anyone. But is it fair or just or right to alleviate that girl's suffering by killing another person?"

There. I'm pro-choice, and it just took me about ten seconds to articulate the pro-life position better than Sarah Palin has managed to.

Yet more reason to follow the suggestion of the editrix. It's a special kind of unqualified to be unable even to parrot the party line on the issues you've never once actually contemplated, even for a second.
