That's sad to hear... were all of your coworkers who had gastric bypass surgery okay?
Surgery's really a modern miracle, how much *can* be fixed ... but as you point out that process isn't harmless. This is just another reason why I think our medical system needs to focus more on preventative care: we can do some pretty amazing drastic things, but those drastic things sometimes have consequences -- not through any fault of the providers, but simply because they're drastic.
I was about three weeks away from a roux-en-Y before realizing that I'd lost nearly 50 pounds on my own, given that I had a goal weight to meet. I've since lost ten more. I've got a long way to go, but I can do this with simple thermodynamics, and I've shifted away from the negative behaviors that have always crippled me in the past.
