Birkenstocks are really the best thing I've found for plantar fascitis. They're expensive, but they last forever and can be resoled cheaply, it's worth spending the money to be able to walk comfortably. You can get Birki sandals that aren't too hippie looking for around the house.
Mine has been completely resolved for a couple of years now, and I can walk barefoot for short periods, but I find that wearing the shoes is no more comfortable than not.
I don't care about "hippie looking" as much as I care about spending $30+ on house shoes right now. My feet will just have to deal with the $5 Dr. Scholl's sandals my mom bought me.
My chiro seemed to think that I was crazy to continue walking on the treadmill, etc. after it started. I didn't know any better, really, but I guess maybe my case isn't that bad either.
