Pet peeve: why do people feel the need to designate the fact that their classes are "AP", when it has no relevance to what they're asking or talking about? "I have a question about this battle we're talking about in AP history", "Gotta study for my AP physics test". Does that make them feel good about themselves, does it make them feel smart? I've

On the AP thing, people tend to think of it as the course designation. I mean, sure, some people could be snooty about it, I suppose. It is a little funny that the division between AP and non-AP tends to be emphasized a little more in spoken conversation than, say, the division between English 10 and English 11, or Sequential/Algebra/Math I and Sequential/Algebra/Math II. "My Math homework" as opposed to "My Algebra II homework." Although Calc or Calculus is sometimes used. Hmm...

(Of course, some people are just silly.)

As to `smarter,' what does it mean? In some ways, I'm smarter than dang near anybody. In others, I'm a complete nincompoop. We all have strengths and weaknesses. It's good to be intelligent, to be educated, to learn what we can learn--but strengths are found in lots of places, and most have nothing to do with an AP Class.

At my high school, some AP classes were significantly... I hesitate to use the word harder, but certainly more advanced than non-AP classes on the same levels. Others, like Psychology,
