Actually, I'm still not sure what to think about this episode. I suppose my final verdit might depend on how the rest of the season plays out - and I shall have to wait several months for that.
I was telling Ann, mostly I was annoyed because fandom's theory has been proved right, and when that happens, fandom gets all full of itself and is IMPOSSIBLE to deal with. :)
Late to the post but, I'm feeling kind of ambivalent about the whole thing. I liked the Doctor's reaction when he realized who River was, and seeing the writing transforming into her name, but the actual "confession" to Amy and Rory not so much, I felt like the scene was cut off kind of abruptly. I don't know, there were things about the ep I liked, but overall it felt a bit... flat, for lack of a better word. I'm not sure if that's just me and my somewhat surprising lack of emotional investment, or what.
But hey, how do you feel about cross-species lesbian relationships? Because I can't be the only one who thought there was some serious subtext between the lizard woman (I can't remember the name of the species, bad me) and her 18th century servant girl? Right? I don't think they were even given names, but I really want fic now. /o\
Also: how did the headless monks function without a head, or some sort of mechanical replacement thing? It was all annoyingly vague, I thought. *might have missed something

I have to agree; I thought they spent too much time with River and the Doctor being all sekritive and giggly [although the Doctor was adorable], while Amy and Rory were just standing there going, "Um, what about OUR BABY?!" I mean, I sort of understand River telling the Doctor first - she has a much longer history and much more of a relationship with him, and parents or no, Amy and Rory are relative newcomers to her life. And yeah,I get making the big DUN DUN DUN!!!REVEAL!!! the last words of this half of the season, but still. It did feel a bit off.
You are definitely not the only one - the lizard lady and her cute little Victorian girlfriend were OMG ADORABLE. I think I saw their names somewhere, but I don't remember them.
The Headless Monks are one of those things I don't think too closely about. Much like the Ood, because seriously NO SPECIES CARRIES IT BRAIN IN ITS HANDS Although if I had to make a guess, it would be that it is ~mystical~ and therefore the implication is that whatever god they worship takes care of the pesky

Otherwise, I think I'm okay with it.
