Unless they're trying to frighten us. It's a psychological tactic. They want us to fret and worry about the meaning behind their actions, thus preventing us from focusing on the important task at hand.

You're most likely right, but I can't say for sure.
No, he should still be able to see it. I never suspected he'd act like this but we can't have him just quit. It's counter productive to have someone join and then someone else leave.
I do, however, want him to stop acting like his opinion doesn't matter and think with his brain and not his emotions.
