Your reasoning makes sense to me, and I speak Hollywood. Alas, I don't speak BBC, but the code words have to be pretty similar, don't they?

BTW, I've now watched the whole series. Gobsmacked, I am. How can the series continue after that, and why would they choose to cancel this very successful show?

Yup, and I sure do speak Hollywood, after working for a casting agency for film, so, yeah, I think we know where BBC Worldwide is thinking of making new inroads.

As to Torchwood, well, it is science fiction -- who knows, since anything at all is possible? I'm sure RTD can do something marvelous if they do renew.

One of the interesting differences between how the UK and US networks are currently conducting their business is that while it used to be de rigeur for US networks to commission shows that were being done from top to bottom by outside production firms for the majority of their programming, the networks here have moved towards heavily favoring their own productions simply because that way they get all of the revenue to themselves. And in the UK, that's been trending in reverse, where it used to be the case that a production company was a channel, they've started moving towards offsetting costs by having outside production companies bear the upfront burden for making a show ( ... )

Yup, I doubt very much they'd be looking at production if they didn't have their own channel(s) on US cable & satellite. It would never be feasible without BBC America existing, and outlets for CBC, for instance.

If it's an American version of the show I'm thinking of that could be...very not good. the BBC would be insane to let the license be used that way, though. Then again a new Torchwood series might work. (If they had new people, new stories, etc.)
