Done!

Done with the Wiley book and can invoice that puppy later tonight. Thank goodness. Not only will it be some income for this month (only one other book this whole month, for proofreading, other than the Heinlein project, which is damned scary), but it means I don't have to read anymore about Microsoft SharePoint and social computing today ( Read more... )

Slept 10 hours, and strangely woke reasonably alert and have been up all day since (even went out to replace my 7-yr-old cell phone with a freebie that's actually rather nice, all things considered).

I think the vitamin D prescriptive dose therapy is perhaps doing some good for the unexplained clinical fatigue. Or something is. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth!

Abby's outfit (her church-going one) when she's pleading that she'd called the daughter to come see her father in custody ... To. Die. For.

I want those gloves and scarf. Hell, I want that whole outfit.

Sadly, I'll have to catch up. I missed last night's eppy because I was hiding in the library reading fic. ::hangs head in shame:: Description?

However, in my defense...there has been an awful lot of lovely fic written of late(and a fab amount of it smutty in nature, too).

When you have a chance, you'll like "Silent Night."

God, I've never even thought of NCIS smut fic, but it's an obvious thing, isn't it? If you know of any seriously fab ones, let me know and I'll try it out. Heavens, this is like "the first one's free, little girl," isn't it? Hah!

Wonderful! No more visions of screenshots dancing in your head for a while. (I have to admit, every time you say "Wiley" I want to make "Acme" jokes or go "beep-beep!" It's a sore test of my minimal propriety.)

How is the ice where you are? I haven't gone downstairs yet but it looks like about 3" of mostly snow on the ground.

Snow, which Elric says shovels easily. But ... they're now talking about 10" more on thurs/Fri.

Whee!

The power crews from Canada are working on the poles down the street by Wilson's Crossing and say that they'll start hooking up houses (apparently it pulled down a lot of house-to-street lines like ours) in our neighborhood today and tomorrow. With luck, they said, we'll have power to this street area tomorrow. (I hope before the snow!)

That's all we need -- I sure hope the city does the sidewalks *before* we get another storm, unlike last year when they waited for it to melt...and it didn't...and froze into a kind of dirt/snow cement that lasted until well into spring. People who don't understand why people walk in the streets in the northeast in winter despite the dangers have apparently never seen mountain ranges where sidewalks used to be!

Sounds more hopeful if they are in your neighborhood, but let me know if you need to use anything here, as always.

I'm about to update with a post, but the gist is this:

They fixed our lines to the street while we were out this afternoon (I picked up that phone, a freebie exchange to replaced the 7-yr-old cell phone I had) -- clearly I should have left the house earlier in the week, if that's all it took to get the powerline people to come!

There is power down on Wilson's Crossing, so we may get some here later, like tomorrow or Friday. There is evidence they tried to put our power on, but it's off again and the generator is on.

The weather report is: another 3" or so on Thurs, and on SUNDAY we're going to get about 10".

I noticed at least out on S. Willow there was little evidence the city had even bothered to plow and of course the sidewalks were treacherous: slush freezing into slick ice. Bastards.
