push poll season has begun

I just spent 20 minutes on a phone with a woman doing a survey for the Pew people that was so heavily skewed toward right-wing Republican answers that she and I got into a lot of discussion about it as it went on. She had noticed that some of the questions weren't worded well and some of them made her feel uncomfortable -- it started with questions about happiness in personal life, moved to happiness or not with the condition of the country and then targeted religious belief. For example, "Are you born again or evangelical?" -- ignoring those not necessarily being the same thing. It went into deep detail about religious practice while using words that weren't necessarily unslanted. Anyway, I answered entirely honestly and (I think) probably managed to skew their understanding of many things.

And no, I don't think marriage between one man and one woman should be considered legal -- I don't think it should be a matter for law. So there. ;)

I always take time to talk to pollsters to make sure results reflect ppl like me (us). And being here means I get to do it a lot. This 'poll' was particularly noxious. One ? included: Do you support the military action in Iraq? Remove the word 'action' & it becomes completely different.

No, marriage between one man and one woman shouldn't be legal in the U.S. They're asking for special rights.

(In Canada, sure.)

That kind of question is the logical equivalent of demanding a yes or no reply to "Have you stopped abusing children."
