This is an even-numbered Star Trek film. Go figure.

LOL! That was our conclusion. We did a lot of counting on our fingers to make sure it was even for all of the films as well as the second in the reboot, but we decided it was. Even though I don't think Nemesis really fulfilled the even film idea :)

(Seriously how on earth can you make a film about "evil romulan picard" boring? But they managed it somehow!)

Nemesis: Cheap plastic imitation of the Wrath of Khan.

Can't say I really agree with your implied conclusion (then again, I don't think that being even-numbered is sufficient for being good, just necessary - I don't rate 4 at all, and 10, as others say, is relatively weak.

It might just about edge 12, though. Into Darkness has the basic problem that it tries to wedge way too much into one feature film; it's kind of The Wrath of Khan with a DS9 two-parter about Section 31 spliced into it (though I guess if you average it out with 5, there's now enough content for one Star Trek movie per actual released movie). As a result, nothing the film introduces gets properly developed, and most of it doesn't even get resolved. Eh, I mean, it's not horrible, but I'd have preferred an actual movie rather than a somewhat disjoint collection of ideas weakly held together.

I'd say the rule is more acurately stated as "Every even Star Trek film is better than the odd one preceeding it" rather than a more simple "Even=Good"

I can't really speak for 10, as I'm not too familiar with, I can speak for 4 which I do care for. However I'd also say that 3 is better than everything after 6 and there's been a definate decline in quality over the years.

The set pieces in Into Darkness were worth the price of admission IMHO even if the actual plot was a bit dicey and it's got the best depiction of a warp core there's been in any of the films.
