Due to the presence of a Pippa tonight I asked for a standard day return at the ticket office this morning as I'd be traveling back early. Instead I was given a cheap day return from Ely because it was cheaper.

wow. why not do that every day you need an early ticket?

Presumably because walking in to Cambridge station and trying to buy a ticket from Ely is a bit suspicious...

Kudos to the ticket seller for bending the rules, though :)

On the other hand, part of Edith's grump with the new system is that he can't tell in advance what kind of ticket he needs. So he could get Ely tickets in advance, and that wouldn't look so suspicious. Maybe.
