Barbers

Does anyone know of a barber in Edinburgh who will accept to give a gent's haircut to a woman?

My partner just wanted the back cutting short, nothing fancy, and my usual barber turned her away with mutterings about 'can't do that, sorry, wouldn't know how' (as if women's heads are shaped differently from men's...).

My barbers, Richmond Barbers in Southside are pretty good barbers. I've found them very friendly.

No idea if they would be okay with giving a man's cut to a woman.

Have been turned away from barbers in the past for *daring* to request that they cut my- non-testosterone-laden hair.. even when I was with a male friend who basically wanted the same haircut. Now I have clippers and just do my own... it's all bollocks, it really is...

I am in complete agreement with you.

I'm wondering whether it would be covered by discrimination laws to refuse to offer a man's haircut to a woman.

A barber in Toronto was taken to the Human Rights Tribunal for exactly this offense.

That's what I ended up doing! I couldn't even get the guy to say why he wouldn't cut my hair. All he would say was "I don't do women's hair". Like I was asking for a perm and highlights or something. I literally just wanted a quick trim of the back and sides with the clippers. I've even seen men with my exact hairstyle getting their hair cut at that barbers. Such bullshit!

I have no idea if they would do it, but Classic Barbers on London road (next to Thinking Chocolate) is the chillest barbers that I've ever been in so they are worth are try., if she made it clear that she wanted a man's haircut.

Watching this with interest, on behalf of a friend of mine who's recently come out as trans. They have a men's haircut now, but haven't yet moved from a hairdresser's to a barber's.
