Reading this made me really sad. We want so much to buy our dream house, but even though it is not a seller's market, it is also not a buyer's market. It's just so insane what the last 8 years has done to our country and economics. I'm really sorry you are having so many problems doing what you need to do.

Asheville is definitely not a buyer's market. I purused the area when I was down looking at residencies, and what you get for the money is just ludicrous. $150,000 to buy a beat up trailer or a 900 square foot house that's 60 years old and showing its age--not too much to look forward to with that. The housing market is all messed up. People who want to buy can't, and people who are lucky enough to sell lose their shirt. I give up.

That really sucks. I've been hearing all about the crashes in real estate values recently - for the first time, I no longer feel like a complete idiot for not making any moves towards buying. It's funny how much perception of adulthood is tied to things like house ownership! I hope you managed to get this sorted out as easily as possible.
