If you're planning on engaging, know this: Any argument you make based on any of the following absolutist premises will be summarily ignored, because I believe down to my core that every one of these statements is false, at least to some nontrivial extent ( Read more... )

I'm almost as optimistic as you are Ed. The only item on this list that gives me pause is #5. :-)

As for your health care debates, I've enjoyed them and have learned quite a bit. Keep it up please!

I just got health insurance after a year and a half without it. I'm pretty pissed off about the system right now.

I knew about all the others, but I never heard of #5. I guess I've been listening to the wrong nutjobs. :)

Oh, and the hardcore libertarians, Ayn Rand worshipers and free-market zealots will trumpet a lot of the things I listed above no matter who is in power. They see the two-party system as shit from different animals dumped into the same fertilizer slurry.

Federal flat tax me for military, interstate roads, federal courts ~ ONLY!

This year's balanced budget paid for by last year's receipts. Stop taking money out and then make ME figure out iffen you took enough, why bother with the IRS!? I would tend to think we could get away with a 20 to 25% across the board income tax on anyone earning over $50,000

Every other service is provided at the state and local levels based on consumption. We have far too much overlapping of services, and still people fall through the cracks. Let us go back to more of a United "States" than a federal trough.
