I completely get what you are saying here. Pride and Prejudice. I LOVE the book but I haven't seen the movie and probably won't... I don't know, I like my classics where they belong.
One time I was plesantly surprised. Jane Eyre. My fav book of all time. There are some really bad versions out there movie wise. As a last ditch attempt, I watched the one staring Timothy Dalton and... omguh. Just. Yeah. Perfect broody Rochester and it was so true to the book. Followed it by the letter. Just loved it.
I always get nervous going to see adaptations of books I've read. Like Kristi and I went to see Chronicals of Narnia. My mom read that to me as a kid and I've loved it for forever. The movie did do it justice but I was scared as all heck going into the thing.
Anyways I get you. Thanks for the good rambly thought reading this morning :)
I don't always get nervous, for plays I never have any expectations, and they really can go either way. I've never seen a good version of Romeo and Juliet (which is fine since it's my least favorite play). Hamlet, on the other hand, I've only seen one bad one, and still Liev Schreiber was the best Laertes out of all them movies.
I actually got the five part Pride and Prejudice boxset for Christmas, which is apparently *the* Pride and Prejudice to see. I haven't watched it yet because I don't want to watch the movie and spend the whole time comparing it to the mini-series. Because, if simply because of format, they aren't comparable.
lol, I'm glad someone gets me, I just thought I was nuts. *giggles*
