A few days ago, in a pretty foul mood, I decided I had to get rid of the old computer magazines I was keeping. I don’t want to be shackled by posessions; the less I own, the fewer ties. “Freedom is just another word,” or so the saying goes.

I like to look at old computer ads.

"Gateway 2000 386 DX 25 MHz with 2 megabytes of RAM and 300 MB hard drive top of the line for only $3199, 15" VGA monitor for only $500 more!"

So do I.

I’ve also kept some quasi-historical snippets like the mag’s original release blurb about Netscape Navigator 0.92 (renders plaintext files faster than any other browser!).

But stashing the whole stack away for the odd clipping I may find keepworthy in 5 years just wasn’t worth the hassle.

Man, I could use a bunch of that sort of motivation myself, I am still tripping over boxes from the move that I haven't unpacked yet. I've thought about just chucking them, but the paranoid certainty that I will need whatever is in them the second the garbage truck leaves stops me every time.
