I can't do anything.

Obviously that's not entirely true, otherwise I wouldn't be posting. And it's not true that I can't be productive - I spent five hours yesterday figuring out how to make a web client for LiveJournal. (I should use that to post this! But, no mood or music or anything.) And I built a bookshelf and cleaned up the apartment today, and I'm about to ( Read more... )

You know, it's perfectly normal and understandable to be unable to focus sometimes. You get a LOT done normally, and you seem to be on top of things almost all of the time-- but no one can be that way 100% of the time. Or, if they are, they're not anyone I want to know. You'll be okay, and if you're not, I'm here. Come hang out or do work in the Hoerner lobby. You have my number, I think. =]

Yeah, I know, but it bugs me when I can't focus, especially when I have things that I have to get done. Frex, one of the things I'm supposedly working on is a paper due tomorrow. ;)

I'm trying a tactic now where I'm working in ten-minute chunks:

  • Work for 10 minutes.
  • Take a 2-minute break.
  • Work on something else for 10 minutes.
  • Take a 2-minute break.
...

And cycle through until you've touched on all your important tasks, then start over. I ran across the tactic a week or so, and haven't tried it before - but it's really working! I'm getting so much more done.

...and there goes the timer - my 2 minutes is up. ;) But I appreciate the offer, and when I don't feel quite so overwhelmed I may take you up on it. :) (And I don't think I do have your number, but I certainly know where to find you, and I can look on WebDB if all else fails.)

I don't answer my dorm room phone, because I can't tell who's calling, and usually it's no one I want to talk to. Usually. Anyway, my cell's 419.601.1355; that's in my eljay user info, too. =D

Yay that it's working! I need to apply a similar one (15 minutes) to the task of Cleaning Up. Maybe I'll cheat and turn it into a 5 minute clean-up chunk, and 2-5 minutes goofing off.

I'm so there. I can do anything that doesn't require brain activity - watch TV, play Sims, read. But as soon as I try to work on something that requires actual thought, I shut down. And I'm not really motivated to try and get myself actually thinking.
