Ginko stopped as Sniper did, looking up at the building as well. He'd never been to one of these islands before--the first time he'd been anywhere new in a while, if you didn't count the Wilderness. That was mostly why he'd agreed to go, even more than his curiosity about the place; simply being somewhere new.

He glanced over at the other people--he knew Souji, of course, and vaguely Bridge, mostly because he knew Locket needed Bridge for some reason he hadn't inquired too deeply about. He hadn't seen enough of the man to form an opinion, however.

"Well, here we are," he remarked, to no one in particular.

Bridge had stood a little apart from the group as they'd walked to the island, his hands behind his head, casually taking everything in. He liked Sniper's company but wasn't overly familiar with the others- not that it particularly bothered him, of course.

"Have any of you ever been here before?" he wanted to know.

The motley little group Sniper had assembled was maybe not the company Souji would have picked - mostly because he didn't really know half of them that well - but he was excited anyway. And maybe just a touch nervous - if the screen showed something intimate, that would be, well. Awkward. But he wasn't sure how safe this place was to poke around alone, and he wanted to know more about his own past.

He gave a cheerful nod at Bridge's question. "Mmhmm! I found the bridge here earlier this month."

Ginko's memory iattractmushi September 23 2011, 01:26:13 UTC
There was the sound of the wind blowing through the trees in the background, as well as a similar, more distant sound-but one would have to have very sharp ears indeed to pick up the sound of the sea ( ... )

Sniper perched on the edge of his seat with a quiet intake of breath when it became apparent that they were going to watch Ginko's memory. His past remained something of a mystery to Sniper, and though it was a breach of privacy, to say he wasn't interested would be a lie. He tried to make out the items in the background - skulls and a skeleton? Was Ginko's friend some sort of voodoo guy? - but tried not to get distracted from the main action.

He had to admit, it was something of a relief to see that Ginko had at least one friend back where he came from. The memory ended disappointingly early, for Sniper was already curious about all the mushi that the two men were talking about and wanted to hear more. It sounded like some sort of great adventure, perhaps not one as drastic as in the stories he read, but an adventure nevertheless. He opened his mouth to ask Ginko if he remembered either of those mushi they were talking about, but shut it again once another memory began to play.

This memory of Cloud's... it had a quiet, comfortable feel to it. Which was a great deal different than most of the other things he'd seen on the screen. The scenery didn't spark intimate familiarity to him, but in some ways, it seemed like... home. A place enough like his own he could be comfortable in it. He made a small noise of curiosity at what the men were discussing - he'd never heard of mushi, but it sounded fascinating. Perhaps he'd have a chance to ask more, afterwards.

Bridge wasn't quite sure what to make of Ginko's memory- he wasn't well-acquainted with the man, and the word "mushi" held no meaning for him. The setting did not seem familiar, either.

Still, it was an interesting place- was this Doctor Adashino a scientist or apothecary of some sort? Or maybe a medical doctor that used unusual methods? He wasn't sure. At least it wasn't an intensely-private memory on display, at any rate.

Bridge's memory handy_psychic September 23 2011, 01:39:39 UTC
Bridge, Sky, and several of their friends were standing inside the circular command room Bridge and Sky had seen when they'd visited their home. At the center of the room was a computer console surrounded by 5 chairs, and large screens and keyboards lined the walls. At the head of the room stood a raised platform with a chair, perfect for whoever was sitting in it to keep an eye on things ( ... )

Sniper couldn't make heads or tails out of Bridge's memory. He had never met Sky in his life, so not a soul besides Bridge looked familiar, but it appeared obvious that they were in some sort of team, which was good. Everybody ought to be part of something, though Sniper quietly hoped it wasn't some sort of policing organization; it felt like far too many of his friends had origins in law.

That weird blue dog-man thing was interesting, though, and Sniper made a mental note to ask Bridge about the species in his world.

Of course, Logan was a happily familiar sight to him, though he wondered if Logan was a replica of the robot dog or an exact copy. Either way, it was pretty cool. He had to say, however, that Logan was a way better name than Robotic Interactive Canine would ever be.

At least it was a good memory. Laughter was something one seldom heard in memories here and it did his heart good to hear it.

After the vague familiarity he felt watching Cloud's memory, Bridge's was a rather abrupt shift. He didn't know the man well, just another friend of Sniper's - and the people and places in the memory seemed odd and unfamiliar. Still, it seemed to be a good moment - a happy one.

Ginko was glad he wasn't the only one singled out in this--and it seemed that Bridge was from Sky's home. Interesting... even if he had no idea what was going on.

Still, the man and woman who appeared to be part-animal were fascinating, as was the dog that seemed to be made of living metal. Whatever was going on, it seemed to be a happy moment. He leaned forward in his chair, curious, as the memory ended--and another one began almost immediately.

Souji's Memory coughcoughshank September 23 2011, 01:55:18 UTC
Unlike the last memory of his the screen showed, this one was dark - nighttime, it seemed. There was a forest clearing, with a rocky outcropping dead in the center. There were two figures - one taller, backed up against the rocks, and then a smaller, masked one, almost the size of a child. The masked one had a blade pointed at the other man's chest - and with a start, Souji realized the young man was Hijikata-san. Younger, definitely, not any older than Souji was now, but still Hijikata-san.

"If fear doesn't kill you, I'll take your soul. If you had a real sword, you could fight against me." It was a clear threat, though Hijikata-san seemed unfazed by it.
"Souji. I've had enough of this game. The sword is hidden in that crevasse, a little further in. Bring it to me and I'll protect you."

A rush of wind covered whatever the two said next, though he could see their mouths move. Unseen by them, a third figure came out front behind the rocks - another child, from the look of it, unmaksed. Himself There was a blade in his hands, far too ( ... )

Sniper squinted at the screen, searching for either himself or Souji in the darkness, but instead he only saw two utterly foreign figures. Unlike the other memories, this was a scene that rang truer to the ins and outs of Sniper's own life, but it was somehow different. The very texture and shape of the land was foreign ( ... )

I was nine. His own words, from a previous memory, came back to echo in his ears. Nine when he first held a real blade. Nine when he first killed. It was a little awkward to watch his younger self cry like that, to be so open with weakness - and awkward to see Hijikata-san, his pillar, be so... uncertain. Still, he didn't want the others to know the memory had made him uncomfortable.

Ginko sat back as this memory unfolded. It was definitely darker than the two that had come before, as the small figure--a child, he's just a child--killed the man threatening this... Hijikata person.

No... it wasn't a man, judging by the height, he realized. Souji killed another child with a blade that looked like it could barely be called a sword. It had no proper grip, and not even the stark beauty that most swords carried clung to it; it was, pure and simply, a tool for killing.

As the memory faded, he hoped that Hijikata had smashed it down with the intent to break it.

Sniper's Memory 1/? longnosedliar September 23 2011, 02:24:21 UTC
The image on the screen was a rather familiar sight to those who knew Sniper. He was sprawled on the ground, looking terrified and resting one hand on his chest as if it was about to fall out of his chest, however his surroundings were distinctly unsuited to the pirate’s general demeanor. He was in a massive, gothic castle, and in front of him was a woman slowly rising from the ground.

She was laughing - a rather queer sound, horo horo horo horo - and rose her arms into the air as she drifted upwards. Her midriff was bared, and her long pink hair fell from its pigtails in loose curls. “Even if you can clearly see me,” she said, “this body of mine can go through anything ( ... )

When it rained, it poured. What appeared to be a monstrous giant stuffed animal appeared in front of him, limbs covered with bandages, mouth covered in a mask and razor sharp claws at the end of each rounded paw. It proceeded to pummel him into the ground. Debris flew up from where he hit the ground ( ... )

It was clear almost immediately that this was Sniper's memory - though despite what he'd heard from the young man, and what he'd seen Sniper do, the whole thing seemed... chaotic. Dreamlike. He winced a little in sympathy at the beating Sniper took - though he kept getting back up again. A fighter, and a stubborn one at that. Souji's respect went up a few notches.

Smart, too - Souji was surprised to hear him list off how he'd found the girl's weakness. Souji had to admit it was something he wasn't that skilled at - straight-up fighting was more his style.
