Dash wasn't looking for anything in particular. Just something to read. He could read as fast as he could do anything else, which made the pursuit of books as a pasttime not his favorite hobby, but Ran had gotten him into... Years ago. A habit he didn't want to break.

So he had some random books on the most random things when the title of Mona's book caught his eye. He actually laughed aloud.

"Lasers? You know I think I've got one--no not any more. I used to have one on rockets. If that's your thing."

Mona looked at the laughing young man with a smile. "I do not know that rockets or lasers are my 'things,' but I will admit that my curiousity has been piqued after a conversation I had on the journals. It seems a relatively harmless thing to look into."

But that was past tense, what he'd used. "Used to have? You misplaced it, then, or is there a bookthief wandering these parts?" Book thief. There was a thought there, something that poked at her brain, and she was starting to see a pattern. But that was for another time. "Or did your interests change?"

"Laser sharks?" Dash grinned, shifting his pile of books to his hip and stepping closer casually, to take a look at the chapter Mona was reading.

A shadow passed over his features at her question, but it was brief enough to miss. All smiles and bravado in full force as he laughed. "Ha, no I got disappeared for a while. Some of my stuff was in storage when I got back, but you know how it goes. If you're gone long enough it's free game."

"So, lasers. Harmless. First I heard of that."

"Exactly. It was an enjoyable conversation." She saw the shadow but also saw him cover for it and felt no need to pry. Mona didn't know him, though she could assume he took part in the conversation.

"Of course. In a place with limited access to resources at times, what is not claimed will be taken by someone else. It is not pleasant, but it is efficient." And now she smiled, at his last comment. "What one does not think they can make cannot, in theory, be harmful. But I am being remiss, and I have not introduced myself. I am Mona Lisa."
