He spotted Lin when he got to the entrance, nodding slightly at her and not commenting on the subtitles above her head. He'd had them before himself, after all, and so he felt he was in no position to say anything about them.

In her defense, Lin had a lot on her mind that day, and even if she had come there voluntarily it was still hard to cope with the stupid bubble.
She must hate me now. That was so stupid. All of it.
Is this the sound of steps, is someone else coming-- no, no it must have been a cat. Or a dog. Or something else. The last thing I need is to be somewhere crowded.
If only I hadn't strained my ankle. I should have let Crimson die. He's an idiot. Why is he alive?
She didn't check whether Sky was actually looking at her or not. She couldn't control her thoughts, but at least she could stare at the ground until the shift was over. And that-- would have things less awkward, wouldn't it?

"I've had that happen to me before, too. In fact, it was happening to my Guide on the day that I was born."
He knew she wasn't much of a conversationalist; however, this was going to be a very unpleasant shift if he kept having to look away from her, especially if nothing else happened.
"They're going too fast for me to keep up with, but I won't look if you don't want me to."
Reply
Thinking too fast-- she'd never considered that a good thing, especially when lying in bed thinking about all the ways she hadn't been strong enough, stubborn enough, mature enough, enough for Bastet to like her. But if he couldn't keep up, and therefore couldn't read-- then it was a good thing, without a doubt.
"It's different when it happens to everyone. It's happening only to me." Just to let him know his words weren't comforting her one bit. As if she hadn't made this hard enough for him already.

At least, he was glad to get out of the bustle of the bazaar and all the people craning to look or read whatever was appearing now, until he saw Lin-- with the same kind of stupid bubble of words over her as he had.
He hadn't been expecting to see her much while she had been upset with him-- she made the schedule after all, didn't she? But that didn't mean they'd never cross paths, especially working in the same place. Annoyed, he glanced down, simply lifting a hand to acknowledge her as the bubble continued its tangent:
...for he is truly his brother's keeper and ( ... )

Lin frowned and looked away as Castor came closer. What was there to say? She was still angry. He was still angry, too, probably. But they had to get over it enough to work together.
Which basically meant stand there in silence and not look at each other the whole time. But Lin had to-- just a peek at his cloud... But, it makes absolutely no sense was what appeared in hers when she did.
I should have expected someone like him to have crazy thoughts. Or has he found out how to hide his real thoughts? Maybe if I were constantly reciting poems in mind--?Was that even a poem? Lin looked away again, quickly ( ... )

While yeah, his made absolutely no sense, hers almost seemed to fit.
You know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?
--Whereas his own was still contextless trash.
"You need something?" He asked, his glance sharpening a bit. If they could get through a brief exchange without commenting on one another's stupid little speech bubbles, it would be a miracle-- especially as much as hers fit-- Hiding real thoughts? Reciting poetry?
They got the metric system there, they wouldn't know what the fuck a quarter pounder was.
It was different, at least. Why would his be completely incoherent, but hers almost seem to fit the situation at hand? It was just enough to spurn his curiosity, though.

That's creepy. He's not smart enough to figure out how to hide his thoughts, if I haven't found a way it's impossible he succeeded. So he must be crazy.
She wasn't really in the mood for one of their usual 'conversations' where they'd snipe back and forth at each other, even though they hadn't for a while and she did miss them. But it seemed that whether she agreed or not, her thoughts were dead-set on starting a fight.
He's always been crazy. Now everything makes sense.
"--No." So she'd pretend she wasn't thinking anything, or that he couldn't read.
It's been a while since we last talked.

Right up until he realized he had left something in the car, that is.
Normally he would not make much fuss about a lighter, particularly since he had quit smoking, but this one had a bit of sentimental value attached to it. He would just have to track Bastet down to ask for it back. He did not know her schedule, but the clothing store seemed as good a place as any to start looking.

No, who was she kidding? She'd never actually go in on her own without being invited or at least letting Bastet know first. And the woman was surely working, she couldn't disturb her.
Furthermore, we've been almost always together for so many days, she must be sick of seeing my face by now. And who could blame her?
She almost bumped into him as she hurriedly walked around the shop for the fourth or fifth time, trying to find the courage to knock.
"What are you doing here?"
Are you here to see her?
Reply
"Hi to you, too."
The bubble over her head was new. He'd seen a few people walking around with similar things, but he hadn't really bothered to read them. It seemed to be a natural extension of what she had already said, though.
"If by 'her' you mean Bastet, yeah. I came by to see if I left something in her little auto."
Reply
What little auto? When have you been there? Why? appeared over her head before she could open her mouth.
Lin raised an eyebrow but didn't really think she needed to add anything. And telling him to ignore it would have been completely useless. She pointed at the bubble.
"What it says."

He didn't actually go inside The Hatchery - he lurked just outside of the entryway, wondering who all was actually still working with all the craziness of late.
["Damn I wish I could actually be working... All this free time and not in the right body to enjoy it."]

Now and then, she closed her eyes and focused to feel everyone's reiatsu, figure out where the others were, what they were doing-- and it was during one of those moments that she thought she heard the faint sound of steps.
"Who's there?"
Please let it not be a Guard. Let it be a cat.
Lin glared up at the bubble of her head, that thing needed to stop embarrassing her like that. Besides, that kind of wishful thinking was out of place, she knew very well what cat steps sounded like, and those, she was sure, were human.

Of course it would be Lin- Smoke groaned. Go figure. "Just checking in..." He pursed his lips. "To make sure the place hasn't burned to the ground or anything." To see how understaffed the place is.
He took a few steps closer, on the look-out for who else was on duty with her. Did Bastet tell her... "Looks like you guys could use a hand, though."
Reply
It appeared over her head before she could stop it. While it was somewhat of a relief that Smoke had a bubble too, it didn't really make her situation easier. Neither did the fact that he looked much, much younger-- she couldn't tell how much, all children looked the same to her until they could be considered adults.
"You can stay, but you will not look at me. And I will not look at you in return."
It's convenient for the both of us, and especially for me.
