After Tian's pearl had gone missing that first time, Dai started keeping an increasingly vigilant eye on it, refusing to let it out of his sight. When he slept, it was tucked up next to him, and when he was a wake, it was either in his arms or firmly on his back. It wasn't exactly light, but he had failed once. He was not going to do so again.
At the moment, it was sitting on the low table in his room, with a towel wrapped around the base to keep it from moving. It was in the corner of his eye, right now, as he went to dish up food for Prestidigitation - who, thankfully, seemed to have the sense not to treat the pearl as a toy. The slight shift of movement caught his eye immediately, and he paused to glance back over again. Yes, it was definitely moving on it's own now. He hurriedly finished pouring out Digit's food, gave the cat a quick scratch between the ears, and knelt on one of the cushions around the table to stare at the egg.
He was still trying to claw at the walls, but his attempts were in vain and only made the pearl wiggle and roll back and forth rather than making a hole. Annoyed, Tian changed tactics and slammed one of his feet against the wall instead. The space was cramped and didn't give him a lot of room for the movement... but it created a thin crack in the prison.
The noise the shell made was soft, but against the background of near-silence - punctuated occasionally by Digit pushing his bowl around as he ate the wet food - it seemed loud. Dai paused, staring. Should he try to hold the egg, to keep it from rolling, or...?
The crack was a good sign, and Tian used both his nose and his claws to try and open it up more. After a moment, it was big enough for him to stick a hand out and the dragon clawed at the outside of the pearl to try and tear off a chunk of shell or two. He was making little cries of frustration, sounding almost like 'kyuu' but warbled and wet from the egg substance inside.
There - a tiny white dragon paw on the outside of the egg. After a moment of hesitating a little more, he reached out. "Tian-dono? I'm going to break the shell a little, so the hole's bigger." He hoped Tian could hear and understand him - Digit had given him plenty of experience in being clawed, but those claws looked a little sharper. And just because he was used to it, didn't mean he liked it. Carefully, he put his thumb at the edge of the hole Tian had made, and tried to snap off a chunk of the shell.
