Reed, however, approached the endeavor with his usual contemplative calm in spite of the building questions and quandaries in his mind. Krile was a friend- a dear one, and one he'd seen countless times at that- but might the context of a datemuddle that equation?

In the end- as he reminded himself before leaving, donning his heavier black coat and white scarf to add at least a trace of formality- he was mostly obligated to show her a good time; and goodness knows both of them would welcome seeing each other again under... gentler circumstances than hospital beds or bloody wounds ( ... )

The white scarf stood out very nicely against that black coat, Krile noted when she spotted Reed. Despite her nervousness, she still smiled broadly. "Don't worry about it! And yes, if we're too cold after we can always get some hot cider." It was really nice to see him looking so well. Despite the fact that he seemed to have made a complete recovery, she still vividly remembered finding him in the candy shop, barely able to stand.

"Oh, um, we'd better go in. Have you ever ridden before? I should have asked you if you knew how," she said as she led the way into the much warmer stables, only realizing that bit of carelessness as she spoke. Though maybe Reed would have said if he didn't, it seemed just as likely that he'd find it rude to refuse on those grounds. But Krile was familiar with most of the chocobos. She'd be able to pick one for him that was good with inexperienced riders.

"Not that I can recall," he spoke at a murmur as he regarded his possible mounts-to-be, "Though I've taken wing atop more docile birds. It's not as though I'm expected to break these mounts, anyway." His words seemed just as directed at himself as they were at her, and he appeared to find them convincing enough. He even ran a hand across one's headfeathers, and though he drew his hand back when it curiously turned its gaze, Reed was placid enough in its presence.

"I'd assume you're well-versed in such things yourself."

"They're all well-trained," Krile said, watching him as he looked over the chocobos, noticing how he drew his hand back. She did remember him saying that he'd flown on one of the Tree's giant doves in one journal conversation... his hesitation around the much more everyday chocobos seemed rather odd to Krile. As was his description of the wild Tree birds as more docile than chocobos. "Though some of them are more stubborn than others."

She unlatched the stall of one named Penny and went in to saddle her up. "I'm good with most animals," she said with a smile smile. "Being able to talk to them helps a lot--this is Penny," she added. "Come meet her! She's good with beginning riders." Being around the chocobos helped her not to be so nervous around Reed, somehow, even if their presence was having the opposite effect on him.

"You can commune with animals?"

Well, he'd seen her speak with dragons before; perhaps it was no more unusual to hear that she could speak with all animals. And though he may not have shared such gifts, he could see even through her posture upon his approach that this bird was hardly a 'beast.'

In fact, seeing one with bit and bridle was almost comfortably familiar in its own right. Even moreso when he took a hold of the reins, and when Penny only peered back curiously. Reed couldn't help but smile a little bit, even scratching against the giant bird's cheekfeathers. "Penny, is it? There's a good girl."

His attention returned to Krile. "She's as good as any. Is there one most familiar to you?"
