Characters: 00 (ghost_of_00), Qi (enchainement) and later Stellaris (lingeringlegacy) Date/Time: December 5th, morning Location: Fisher Island Rating: PG-13 for violence Summary: How does I survival instinct?
Something about the nature of what was going on had distracted Qĭ. Distracted her badly. She'd been nearly the last tor realize she could do something new; where there was one, suddenly there were three, but only with one voice between her.
The first time she'd done it in front of her brother she'd startled the poor medic badly.
Who was to say why she hadn't followed Simon to the Wilderness during the impromptu evacuation, but it was probably for the best that she hadn't. It definitely was for 00's best interest that she showed up anyway.
Death is inevitable was not the sort of thought one came across and ignored, anyway

The pain... slowed. New pain stopped happening, but existing pain was still there. The sounds became different. Thuds, tearing flesh, something rushing through the air in a doppler effect. 00 lifted her head and concentrated on identifying the person now looking down at her. Qi. Where had she come from?
"No," she agreed, noting the strain in her own voice. Pain, making itself evident. Why? Because it hurts, was the only answer she could think of. Too much hurt to wonder why injuries nowhere near the larynx manifested themselves in sound.
She hadn't even started wondering how Qi had dealt with the zombies so effortlessly. They had been there, now they were not. 00 couldn't think of any other information that might be relevant... wait. Could she stand? She wasn't going to die immediately, which meant she could get medical attention. But as with her other question, the only answer was it hurts.
It was an unconscious act, an un-self conscious one even, to reach out and touch 00's cheek. "Not sure you should move. I could carry? Harder to run that way but we might make it." Two islands between them and the access point. Could she really carry someone that far?
Something told her she could, if she had to. If she remained separate then they would be safe, but 00 would have to decide for herself. For the moment she tried to help the other girl to her feet. "It hurts because they hurt you."
Touch. A gesture of affection? Contact? Reassurance? 00 wasn't sure. It hurt. Yes. Five zombies had become twelve. She tried counting how many sources of pain there were, but it was too difficult. More than three.
"I don't want to put you in danger," she said. No. Qi should be safe. 00 had fought zombies to defend others. If someone died because of her, it would be... wrong. Yet the memory of the boy returned. "But I don't want anyone to cry."
Since the onset of this invasion, Medics have gone back and forth in waves to evacuate the patients to the Wilderness, where it was safer, and Stellaris was among the ones tasked to transport supplies. Qĭ's message came right as her team left the Clinic, and in a flash she negotiated-or rather pressed-that she changed places with someone on the SAR team. This detour was one she couldn't not take

It was a dangerous move, and he'd had to fight to get this position, but Composer stood with Stellaris at the stretcher. He'd gone into a full fledged panic seeing that she was hurt (why? why was he panicking when she wouldn't panic over herself) and volunteered himself to go with her. After all, he was armed.
No one could keep a good concentration with all this. Sorry, he had told Stellaris before beginning his attacks. He aimed, and shot down the ones he could before they got too close, though his aim shook with tension.
There were, somehow, three girls all dressed the same plus one passenger on the bridge - one in front, one in back, and one in the center between them carrying an awake but wounded 00. Qĭ the First managed to take out a zombie just as it got shot in the head with...something from someone, none of them were paying that much attention, but with that all three made their way to where everyone else was waiting.
One of the guards stared and got a tongue stuck out at him while Qĭ the Second stopped to help get 00 onto the stretcher and Qĭ the Third helped. "We're here." Only the Second one said anything. "She hurts a lot. Could stand and breathe but not too well?"
Armed people. Purple hair--Stellaris. Blond hair--Composer. He had a gun. 00 wondered if her lance was still where she had dropped it. No she didn't. That was irrelevant. Stellaris and Composer were both medics. It was logical for them to be here. But was it coincidental?
She wanted to say hello. Friends. Friend. Fred. Was Fred all right?
Movement was happening again... more pain flaring, another pained noise. Now 00 could see blackness. Death? Was death black? She didn't know. But should she know? Pain, in her dream. Her body had fallen apart. It felt like it was falling apart now. Pain everywhere. Blackness coming closer. Too weak to do anything, if she knew what to do, if she wanted to do it. She shut her eyes and then thinking stopped. Unconsciousness.
