Rain was still feeling somewhat disgruntled at having woken up in someone else's bed, so when Reed had suggested sparring, he'd been entirely in favour of a means to release some frustration. Although whether or not he could move well enough in strange clothing - squire's clothing, Reed had called it - remained to be seen. But he was willing to try.

He hadn't expected the training swords. Any sparring he'd done thus far in Edensphere had been hand-to-hand, no weapons involved. But they weren't unfamiliar to him. He selected one and picked it up, giving it a couple practice swings to get a feel for the weight and balance of it.

No, definitely not unfamiliar. Rain simply nodded once, shortly. He was ready for whatever Reed had in mind. If this was truly what the Tree wanted of them, perhaps this would prove to be a tolerable event after all.

Stepping into the arena had sent off all sorts of bells in Magi's mind. Even though it wasn't nearly as big as the coliseum nearby, something about the sandy floor, the prospect of fighting... it all seemed familiar. He had already reflexively used a defensive maneuver against Burn once, so it didn't surprise him in the least that he, at some point, had learned to fight.

It also didn't surprise him that, as he picked up one of the training swords, the weight of it in his hand also felt familiar.

Magi felt a slight bit of a grin break his confused and studious expression, and he swung the training sword once, lightly, already testing the waters. "You are teaching us armed combat, then, sir?"

He breathed a sigh of relief as his two 'squires' armed themselves and seemed to adapt to the weaponry with ease. That was a better start than he would have hoped, especially with someone of Magi's age and demeanor. ...Rain, at least, showed some physical prowess when they'd first awoke ( ... )

Rain was silent as Reed spoke. An 'extension of your heart', hm? He didn't think he'd ever heard a weapon referred to as such... and, if he was completely honest, he thought it sounded rather cheesy. A weapon, to him, was just a weapon. No more, and no less. A sharpened piece of steel that served a useful purpose in capable hands. An extension of one's arm, that he could understand... but how could an inanimate object be a conduit of one's will? It was simply a tool.

...But then, maybe he shouldn't be so quick to disagree with a man who could destroy a training dummy with a stone. That was... impressive, to say the least. Reed was suddenly making a good argument for this 'unchained will' point of view.

Rain regarded the destroyed dummy for a moment, his expression betraying none of his thoughts, then turned back to Reed.

"Nice shot." He paused, and not wanting to seem overly impressed, he added, "...but did we come here to throw stones, or to spar?"

Reed's words struck familiar, somehow, in Magi's mind; both an extension of your arm as well as an extension of your heart. Placing your will into an inanimate object and using it as a medium just seemed to make sense, and Magi found himself rubbing his thumb against the base of his left index finger, as if playing with a ring that wasn't there.

His eyes widened a bit as the training dummy fairly well exploded into shards of wood and collapsed. The sheer amount of force it must have taken to destroy something like that from such a distance... He made no comment, but set his jaw, lips pressing together as his expression took on a more serious tone.
