Cara stood by the lake, watching Bartz the otter dive in and out with a faint smile on her face. She would have liked to go swimming with him, but obviously it was far too cold to think of doing that, so she would just be content with watching him when he was on the surface. Mostly he seemed to be exploring it, and had cheerfully waved off the warning about Bernard with an easy manner and assured her that he come find her later if he was in longer than she could stay.

Still, she had some time before she needed to go on duty. And she didn't really feel like running around on rationed food, preferring to reserve her energy in the periods between general helping-out and her duties as a guard. Sailormoon wasn't sitting at home doing nothing, and Ari had her familiar, so Cara felt it was okay to sit by the lake for a little bit and let Bartz enjoy himself.

As Serenity was walking down the hallway, her newfound companion ran up behind her, climbed up her back, and sat on her shoulder. She was so startled that she stopped right outside of a room that was not hers.

She turned her head to the spider monkey. "You are incredibly considerate for a creature, do you know that?"

"Well, I would not want to harm you with my claws."

"That is precisely what I mean - you are very kind to think of that. May I refer to you as Kindred?"

"I would be honored, lady."

"Do not be so formal with me, I am-"

'all that death really gets to me, y'know?' "Who are you?"

"Did you hear that, Kindred?"

"Yes I did - it came from within."

Serenity knocked on the door. "Excuse me, resident? I heard a concerned voice..."

Nobody's eyes narrowed at the knocking on his door, the bat's head perking up to turn and stare curiously at the source of the sound, ears twitching. Nobody--that is, no-one besides himself--had ever come inquiring after him.

The unnamed creature chittered something to itself, too quietly for him to catch, and he stared at the bedsheet on the floor, unsure of how to hide his work. There wouldn't be time enough to unclamp and fold it, he couldn't stick the desk under the bed, and anyone allowed inside would see what he'd been up to.

"Keep quiet," he told the animal on his bed, despite inwardly believing that it would do no such thing.

Moving to the door, Nobody opened it just a crack, one green eye peeking out at the woman outside. Whatever polite greeting he was supposed to have given, he didn't. Instead, she got a "Do I know you?" and a stare--which only deepened as it noticed the monkey on her shoulder.

At least I'm not alone.

Serenity returned the stare, looking around the room in a concerned manner, but finding nothing. She wasn't sure what she was expecting to find with the stare, but something out of place. With that finished, she looked back at the young man in front of her.

"I apologize for not announcing myself. I am Serenity, an Apprentice Scavenger here. I do not believe we have met." She put out a hand in friendly greeting. "I was worried something might be the matter, since I heard a voice apparently in a worried state, but I see no one else with you."

[[OOC Note: so apparently Serenity's power didn't work on Nobody's familiar like I thought it would since her ability doesn't distinguish between animals and humans or whatever. Anyway, she heard Nobody's concerned voice and that's why she knocked. *nods* ]]
