Dash was glad he was on duty with Cara. She was pretty chill. It was kind of ridiculous that the tiny girl was a guard though, but hey, Bastet was shorter than him and he knew the guard captain could kick his ass. Into next week, even. But he still didn't feel like he needed guarding. In either case it meant he had company.

"I think you should play cards with me." Dash decided, picking up the greeting bundles while the girl went for the towels. "Seriously, short-stack, nothing's going to get in here that the two of us can't handle." Preaching delinquency seemed to be his thing, but the girl looked as exhausted and in need of a break as everyone else, and Dash firmly believed that if anything did attack the hall--which nothing ever had that he knew of, short of invading ants--then they'd be able to handle it or they wouldn't, no in-between.

And standing guard wasn't going to make Cara able to handle it any better than playing poker would.

She whined, loudly. The nice, cool feeling of the restored breeze was gone, replaced by something sticky and disgusting- eating into her fur. It was uncomfortable. It was gross, and wet, and she dearly wanted to get out.

She pushed and kicked her legs, until the cocoon expelled her in a mass of limbs, muscle, matted fur and goo.

The white wolf sneezed a little, and rubbed a paw to her nose. That was... a little unpleasant for her, but at least she was out now. The only problem now was getting clean and dry. She shook herself out violently, sending goo everywhere. The sooner it was gone from her fur, the better. It was heavy, and uncomfortable.

Discomfort was an emotion the young woman who found herself waking up in a nearby cocoon could empathize with. Moving from the last vestiges of her dream, her intention to determine what, exactly, it meant, she found herself pressed up against something large and encased in something vaguely warm and definitely viscous.

Viscosity wasn't usually an issue she ran into with the air she was surrounded with and breathing. The sudden dawning impression that she wanted out sent her pushing forward as something else scrabbled with her. She latched onto whatever it was reflexively, not wanting to get mauled -- and burst through the skin of the cocoon with both fists buried in the ruff of a giant, gooey white dog. If that wasn't weird enough, the two had landed next to another large white canine, who had caught them in the process of shaking a similar goop out of their fur.

Hacking up what was left in her mouth, throat, and lungs, the pink haired woman let go and pushed her hair back off her face. The first question to come to mind was, ( ... )

"I'm on duty," said Cara, giving Dash a poke in the arm as they went to greet whoever it was that had been born, Bartz the otter following at her heels. "It'd be really embarrassing if we had to get reborn because a minotaur got in and we were playing cards--and who are you calling short-stack?" She was joking, but Cara still did take her duty seriously. Even if a card game with Dash sounded like it would be interesting, because she had a feeling he cheated ( ... )

"Score! Finally see why you do this job, kid." The turkey under the greeting table commented when the pink-haired girl bust out of the cocoon. "Was starting to think you were queer." There was a pause in it's commentary. "You are queer, aren't you kid? Don't mind if I say hi to the lady then."

Dash was still trying to process the BIG WHITE WOLF being born when the turkey started to waddle towards the pink haired girl. He blocked it with his foot, frowning. "Back of you crazy bird." And looked at Cara. "Minotaur? Seriously nothing attacks the hatchery. Ever. It's so boring even monsters wouldn't bother."

He took one of the towels from the small guard and held it out to the girl, head half turned away, eyes on the wolf.

"Welcome to the Fishbowl, new kids, happy birthday, you've just been born. Um." He wasn't sure if he should address the wolf. Maybe it was another animal companion? "Pick a name, and remember that dream you just had. It's all you've got of your past."
