Handmaiden stepped off of the bridge onto the strange, frozen island, taking a small moment to herself as she stood still and breathed the icy air. So familiar... since her trip to the wax museum with Victory, she had been feeling more uncertain about things that were familiar. But it was better than a blank slate.

Forcing herself not to go into a moody reverie--it was too cold for that in any case--she headed for Forge's smithy. "Greetings, Forge," she said as she entered, glad for the warmth. Familiar the snow might be, but she was dressed for summer.

Forge was at one of his massive workbenches attempting to repair a new tool he'd dug out of the Scavengers' Yard when Handmaiden arrived. He turned slowly and offered her a silent nod of greeting before flopping down onto his forepaws and moving over to where he'd set out the new armor. "Try it on, make sure it's suitable." He said, handing the piece out to her.

It was designed only to cover the torso, so that she would have free motion of arms and body otherwise, just enough to protect her vitals. Unadorned and unpolished, bears did not make things pretty they made them functional.

Handmaiden nodded, taking the armor from his massive paw and looking over it with what she found was an experienced eye. It was quite simple, no more than a breastplate and backplate really. The make of it seemed less advanced than she was used to--it looked as though it buckled on with straps, rather than being attached to a duracloth garment that zipped on the side.

She put it on, tightening it until it was snug and comfortable, and then shifted through several combat stances. The fit was good, and it certainly seemed to offer a free range of movement. "It is very good," she said, obviously pleased. "You know your craft well."

It may have been primitive compared to what Handmaiden might have expected, but Forge was gifted with a talent for bringing out the underlying strength in metals. Forge observed as she fitted it, making small notes to himself in areas that might need improvement for the next order. Handmaiden seemed pleased, however. That was good.

"Thank you," he rumbled out. "You are satisfied?" Good, then they could get to the business of payment. With a little coin he might be able to procure a few better quality tools than the ones he'd had to dig up.
