Characters: Truth and Kazahana Date/Time: August 26, Morning Location: Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood Rating: PG Summary: (Truth and Kazahana need to talk.)
The knock had come just as she'd been getting ready to find a companion and take a trip back up the elevator into the tree. She didn't have a shift at Medical today, but KC still needed to be fed and cuddled, and she might as well bring some of her gift purchases with her, some of which were stacking neatly in a bag by the door. Some she planned to give away soon, no special occasion, and others she wanted to save.
She smiled briefly when she opened the hotel door to see him, but the look on his face and the faint whiff of alcohol caused that smile to fade. He wasn't a teetotaler, but this wasn't like him. "Come in," she said, stepping aside to let him in. "What's wrong?"
He took the step inside, still hating himself that he had to do this, but sure in his mind that it was necessary. It was because he cared too much, but it still hurt him.
Of all the things he could've said, that wouldn't have been the last...but it would have been very far down the list. Her eyes shot wide open, and her voice seemed to have disappeared entirely.
She stared at him, trying to figure out where this had come from by looking at his face, but if she hadn't seen this coming, how could she read him at all? "Oh," she managed after another long, painful moment.
There was nothing else that he could say that could make it any easier, he knew, and after a few long seconds of silence, he nodded softly.
"I'm...I'm sorry."
He looked away from he then, glancing off to one side and hoping that she didn't ask him why, that she would just let this be and hoping that she could imagine that it was just as painful for him as it was for her.

"I...well..."
A deep breath, and then he shook his head softly.
"I don't think we should see each other anymore."
