Stopping at Smoke's after work had been a last minute decision. While she didn't see him at the bar, she still decided to stay for a drink anyway; her week had been as busy as ever, and she could use the relaxation. Something about the anonymity of a crowd appealed to her right now.

She slipped through the tables, nodding to a few familiar faces before settling herself easily at the bar. "Hey, Fred," she called. "Got any plum wine?" She vaguely noticed the others sitting at the counter, but her focus was definitely on getting herself a drink.

She grinned at the bartender's answering nod, resting her elbows on the bar to wait.

Nonchalently, Ace stood up and stretched, then walked around the bar for a moment before returning to it, taking a seat right next to the gorgeous woman that sat down. He flashed a grin at her before turning to the bartender.

"Hey barkeep! This one's on me, and I'll have what she's having," he ordered, then leaned on the bar so that he was facing the woman's general direction. Wow, she really was breath taking. Ace gave her a charming smile to warm up to her. "Bet a lot of men buy you drinks, huh?" he jokingly asked, but was also quite serious about it at the same time. Actually a good chunk of Ace's paychecks went to buying pretty girls drinks.

Fred gave Bastet a flat, amused look; it wasn't the first time a man had tried to buy her a drink, and it always ended the same way. He slid her glass of plum wine across the bar, and silently moved to get one for Ace.

Bastet took the glass and turned to face the vaguely familiar redhead who'd greeted her. She raised an eyebrow, taking a sip of the wine before responding. "Men offer," she said, faintly amused. She never accepted; despite the fact that her friends called her a tease, she never led anyone on who thought they might have a chance.

He was cute, if cocky. But she hadn't been interested in anyone for a while.

Ace thanked the bartender as he received his glass of plum wine. He brought the glass up to his chin and sniffed reverently, taking in the sweet yet heavy scent of the wine. Lady's got good taste, taste that was for sure.

"Just offer?" he asked with mock disbelief, and then took some wine into his mouth. "It'd be quite rude of them not to follow through with their offers. Don't worry, though, I'm not that kind of guy." No, Ace was a much smoother operator than that. Ever decent man should know that you don't skip out on the bill on a chick. That was just terrible and definately did not secure a second date.

Oh, this one wasn't going to give up easily. Genuine, if wry, amusement lit her eyes. "They don't follow through because I say thanks, but no thanks. I can buy my own drinks."

She took another pull at her wine, savoring the sweet, tart taste; she might ask for a bottle to take home.
