She did not consider herself the best candidate for the job, no, but that did not stop her from trying to be.
She would do everything in her power to keep this place as safe as it could be, while people still come in, still live here, still recuperate from the shock of losing their memories and being born again.
Bastet's house was just up ahead, and she stopped to make some last minute inspections. Decent fighting attire? Check. Weapons? Oh definitely check. Preparedness?
Yes, check that as well. She wouldn't be here if she was not.
Steel tapped on the door, announcing herself. "Steel, reporting in."
Reply
She opened the door, giving the other woman a slight smile. "Thanks for coming...and I dare you." The latter was said sharply, looking down at the cat and puppy contemplating making a break for the outside. They thought better of it, instead turning to go back into the living room, settling themselves on the floor beneath the coffee table.
Bastet led Steel into the living room, shooing Diva off the armchair, and motioning Steel to have a seat. "Let me know if the animals bother you--I can lock them in one of the bedrooms. I'm watching two of them for a friend."
Steel had always seemed nice enough, if serious, over the journals, and she was much the same in person. "Can I get you anything to drink? I've got tea and water."
Reply
Normally, she would have refused to take anything, but that would be quite rude of her. "Just water, please."
She studied Bastet. She had been watching the journal for sometime, and the captain of the Guard seemed to be a reliable person, if not a little playful at times. Oh well, one was entitled to have his or her own quirks, especially in certain times. And Steel did like Bastet's quirks very much. Not too little, and yet not too much either, with the perfect amount of snark in them.
The other woman had flair, she admitted. That was a shoo-in for Steel's undying respect.

After handing it to her guest, she settled herself on the couch, tucking one foot beneath her and letting the other brush the floor. "So, Steel," she said, her expression neutral, but not unfriendly, "why do you want to join the Guard?"

He wanted to protect this place. His friends, the people he didn't know... he wanted to keep them safe.
He knocked on the door, and took another deep breath. "Tatsu here. May I come in?"
Reply
She left the kitchen, pausing the set her water on the coffee table before answering the door. "Hey, Tatsu," she said, giving him a small smile. "Come in." He looked nervous, and she made an effort to project calm in an effort to reassure him.
Bastet led him into the living room, offering him the armchair with a casual motion of her hand. "Can I get you anything to drink?"
Reply
"No thank you. I'm fine." He gathered his nerves and sat up straight, making a note to keep eye contact. "I appreciate the opportunity to try out for the guard. Thank you again."
Reply
Having offered her guest some refreshment, she supposed she could just get straight into it. "So tell me, Tatsu--why do you want to be in the Guard?"
Reply
Still, worrying about it wouldn't get her anywhere. Just keep going forward, be honest, and hope that Bastet would accept her onto the Guard. Cara knew she was a good fighter and she usually considered herself sensible. And if not, well, she would try again the next time there were positions open. "It's Cara, here for the interview," she said.

She opened the door, motioning Cara in. "Hey kiddo," she grinned. "It's good to see you again."
She led her into the living room, offering her the armchair as she had with the other two interviewees. "Let me know if the animals bother you," she said, referring to the two cats and small puppy around the room. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

She'd been told by Justice that Bastet's interviews were demanding, but aside from the sparring (which she didn't expect to be easy), she didn't know what sort of questions Bastet was going to ask her. The why, she supposed, which was simple enough, probably about fighting skills too... Cara would just have to wait and see. It wasn't as though Bastet was the kind of person to beat around the bush.

It seemed like an obvious question...but she could read quite a bit into someone's true motivation by the way they answered. Was it a drive to protect? To fight? Did a half-formed memory drive them or did they have more immediate incentive?

Doll's red eyes scanned the place, looking for the individual called "Bastet" that still did not have a face to put with it.
In the back of her pants, Doll had stuck the gun that she had just finished cleaning. People in the guard needed a weapon, right? Now hers was finally fixed. There was something about the group of his gun too, something familiar she couldn't put her finger on. She had almost gotten used to having that feeling here.

She rose from the couch, moving to open the door. An unfamiliar woman stood there, but she had a pretty good idea of who it might be.
"Doll?" she asked, a faint, relaxed smile on her face.
(ooc: I hope you don't mind my assumptions in this tag; I just figured she'd made her way to Bastet's house for the interview.)

Doll looked the other woman up and down. She had never really formed a picture of Bastet in her mind, but she was not in the least bit disappointed. The other woman looked quite formidable.
"Yes," Doll said, the same sort of smile creeping onto her face. It was just as restrained as Bastet's. Doll rarely ever actually smiled. "You must be Bastet, then."

She led Doll into the living room, then motioned her towards the armchair. "Would you like anything to drink?" While Doll had been scanning Bastet, Bastet had also given the other woman a once-over. She held herself confidently, and looked as though she knew how to handle herself in a fight. Overall, she made a good first impression.
(ooc: *pets* It's all good, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping on your toes. XD)
