Spike was actually excited to be on cocoon duty. Like Seraph, he'd seen a lot of elevator duty and it was wearing him out; not only that, however, but the tree had suddenly decided to give birth to new people once again, and if it was as fertile as it had been shortly before shutting down, there was a greater chance he'd see some old friends again...

"Looks like it," he agreed, with more eagerness than was usual for him, as he watched the cocoon with interest. He stood up to wait, his staff held loosely at his side. "I wonder who it is this time?"

Someone most likely rather unexpected.

That need to find the missing girl, the pressing need and urgency of it startled the bear awake his first thoughts were of chasing down those men in the sleds and... What was this? This was not the arctic, there was no snow, no sounds of battle only a strange thick green liquid. And a very uncomfortable pressing silence. The bear did not like that one bit, nor the green liquid or the feeling of being trapped. Rather than reaching out gently or experimentally he thrashed out before him with a massive paw, claws breaking easily through the cocoon which resulted in a very large white bear tumbling in an undignified manner to the floor.

He scrambled to his feet quickly and gave a mighty shake, sending goop everywhere. For the moment he hadn't quite noticed that there were people outside his cocoon, as full of goo as his nose was.

A shoulder rotated in a half-shrug to Spike's question. "As we are amnesiacs, I doubt who it is matters terribly. I cannot name anyone that I am hoping to arrive." His attention was more on the cocoon ready to burst than the guard. His brows furrowed and then, the bear splashed to the floor ( ... )

"Yeah, I suppose... I'm just hoping for... well, it doesn't matter. Not my job to speculate who might come out, after all; just need to keep them safe." He let out a sigh, then couldn't suppress a yelp as a gigantic polar bear of all things came out of the cocoon.

Oh, GREAT. Were they going to be invaded by hungry bears down HERE and all be eaten? He somehow doubted the Tree was THAT cruel, but...

Spike took a step toward Seraph, ready to jump in front of him if necessary, his right arm glowing, and made half a shield before he could control his instinctive "PROTECT" reaction and calmed down. The shield disappeared, but the glow in his arm didn't; he didn't seem to be able to make that much go away.

"And I'm Spike. What's your name?"

Did this bear even talk? He hoped it did.
