Since the Laguna incident - or Shumi incident, rather, since C.C. was careful to distinguish between the two - the witch hadn't stumbled upon any more of her former acquaintances in Edensphere. There were doubles of people in Rivelata, yes, but no one that she knew personally, so she didn't pay them any mind after she'd asked the necessary questions. She began to think, as she wandered the marketplace that day, that Laguna's instance had been a singular occurrence. But she realized, as she spied the Captain's familiar form, how wrong she was to assume ( ... )

Hakuteiken was the type who every easily chased others away with his arrogance, and there were few other than his supervisors on the farm who thought to speak to or approach him. Upon impact, he turned to look at the woman--she didn't seem particularly familiar. He was quick to observe and examine her, attempting to determine whether she seemed to know who he was.

A quick flick of his eyes and his gaze fell upon the picture she presented. Unfortunately, he didn't recognize its subject either.

"No, I have never seen him before," he replied. "However, it does not mean that he is not here. It is also possible that he went to that island that suddenly manifested upside-down in the sky. For what reason are you searching for him."

As usual, he demanded an answer more than he asked a question. But if the woman knew anything about his demeanor, she likely wouldn't be surprised or offended.

C.C. felt her lips curve into the smallest smile. He was exactly like the other Captain Kuchiki had been. If he was looking for a clue that she recognized him, he would certainly find it in that smile.

"He is a rather important," she said, and tucked the image away into the bag she had at her belt. "I take it it is an entirely different story here."

As much as she respected him, C.C. wasn't the type to listen to authority. She was going to question him as much as he questioned her, and answer him as little. It was how she dealt with the one she'd known, and until she deemed it necessary to treat this one differently it would be the way she dealt with him.

I'm sorry, a whole bunch of mod stuff suddenly came up and made me slow as hell. DX snobbiest January 21 2009, 03:22:08 UTC
Judging from the way that she smiled, it seemed the woman did, in fact, recognize him. Her words indicated that she wasn't from Edensphere and possibly from that island floating upside-down above them. Was she from the world he originally came from, or perhaps another? If she was not from that foreign island, then did she retrieve memories wherein he was included? Hakuteiken wanted to demand ask many different things but wasn't the type to go about it so crudely or informally ( ... )

XD No worries! Sorry I didn't tag before you got off. DX the_pizza_witch January 21 2009, 06:08:05 UTC
"Memory has little to do with true value," she answered, sighing and turning to look back at Rivelata. "The man that I am looking for... he does not remember who he is, but that entire island certainly does. They are all searching for him, in some way or another."

C.C. turned back to Byakuya, quite able to see the old shinigami she'd known from Rivelata, quite able to recall his elegance, and the amount of respect that his subordinates, and even those who didn't know him had for him. Kuchiki Byakuya, Captain of some division or another of death gods, bearer of the sort of power that left her lying dead on his floor. Even she held a certain respect for him, and for the witch that was rare.

"You might have forgotten yourself, but there are those from your world or from others who know you, and who still hold the same respect for you as they ever did. Remember that, when you need to. Somewhere, there are people who would see you, even as you are now, and bow to you in respect."
