The woman felt herself expanding within the liquid. It was so warm and comforting, so relaxing. Her memory faded, with it, her pain. Inside, she slowly felt herself standing, head slowly poking through the cocoon. Her eyes were closed, but they slowly opened. Her eyes were slightly wider apart, purple eyes slightly too large for her perfect face. Two hands reached out to press against the shell.

It caved unexpectedly under her and the woman tumbled forward. Even the fall echoed of grace and newness. Skin like moonlight on snow glistened with the goop. Her long white hair reached down to the middle of her back. She lay on the ground, staring. Slowly, she curled up on the floor.

"I am dying. This form... it's dying all around me." She whispered, eyes vacant. She was distraught, but not crying.

If you die in your dreams, you die in real life. He couldn't quite remember where he'd heard it before, but he definitely didn't want to test the theory right now. When did he realize he had been dreaming? The answer to that faded into the dream.

He was drowning in his nightmare, drowning in a sea of blood; forcing himself awake, his eyes snapped open only for him to flail--albeit somewhat hindered by the sticky substance surrounding him--and to panic as he realized that he really was drowning in real life.

Crap. There was no way in hell he was dying in a weird white eggshell in weird sticky gunk.

At some point in his mad flailing, his arm came in contact with the white wall of whatever the heck was encasing him. Much to his surprise, it came apart at his slightest touch, and he spilled out onto the floor, hacking and coughing, as cold air hit him all over almost as though he were--

...

oh.

... and the wind and grass were so soft that he didn't want to do anything but lie back against them and be at peace and nothing could possibly get in - A crack; a burst of cold, a point of sunlight. The boy blinked lazily, pulled from warm comfort and into confusion that was more sad than alarmed or angry. It wasn't grass around him, but something else, white and fragile, cracking from the inside although he knew he hadn't touched it. He remained lying back, limp, oddly calm, as the white stuff flaked and liquid gushed out and left him exposed to light and air. Where - ? No telling. Did it matter ( ... )

Although she was a complete nervous wreck, everything seemed to vanish once she laid eyes on the pale woman. There was a strange aura about her, calm and serene, and her mere presence touched something inside of Iris. The brunette almost wanted to cry for her when she mentioned something about dying. Dying? How was she dying? Iris felt at a loss for what to do for a brief moment before finally tearing her eyes away to look at the other newborns.

A redhead seemed to just accidentally smash through the cocoon wall and fall gracelessly to the floor, coughing and hacking. The girl hoped that he hadn't hurt himself during the fall... he looked healthy enough, though. And another cocoon just seemed to shed away from another boy, who... suddenly made things gold!?!? O__O ( ... )

Time marched across her, relentlessly eroding away her body. She uncurled her body, pressing her palms into the ground and pushing herself up, feet pointed until she stood very nearly on the very tips of her toes. They moved back down, but the woman was thrown off and managed to stumble to the wall.

She appeared to ignore everyone, but her eyes were drawn to look at the guide, who seemed to know more than her. She was uneasy, as if this wasn't how she was supposed to see the world. As the seconds passed across her, she was struck by a thought.

She was aging, dying.

The thought frightened her. She said nothing, but held her arms close to her body, having managed to stabilize herself. Wide purple eyes truly paid attention to Iris.

The guide was going to explain this. She should know why the woman was a woman and not... whatever it was she was supposed to be. But she knew it wasn't this body that was her own.
