[Fic] "The Transient and the Eternal: If only" -- Angel Sanctuary

I'm doing thirtyforthree again, this time for Kira Sakuya/Mudo Setsuna/Mudo Sara from Kaori Yuki's Angel Sanctuary. There will be spoilers in nearly every theme -- given the characters, it's nearly impossible to avoid them! -- and a lot of potentially objectionable content. This is because the source manga has a lot of potentially objectionable content. If ( Read more... )

if you hadn't said there were gaps in the writing I wouldn't have noticed. XD The ending works fine.

I really liked Sara's dilemma here, and wow, Setsuna being all wise! How weird. XD But what I really really liked were the background details of changing technology and music fads, oh *fashion.* That really does make it seem like the fic is happening in our close future, especially since it seems so normal to them.

"You realize that you're implying heaven and hell are run by idiot teenagers," Sara said, not bothering to hide her smile.
"Idiot teenagers who happen to be millennia old, but basically? Yeah," Setsuna agreed.
Mental age stuck to physical age? Makes sense, too, with their behaviors. XD

I really like that they still feel like Setsuna and Sara, and if you didn't mention the swelling joints and silvered hair I'd almost forget to update their appearance in my head. Anyway, full of d'aws.

Thank you!

Setsuna's never been stupid, really -- reckless, short-sighted, and amazingly oblivious, sure, but not stupid. He has a gift for finding his way to the heart of a problem, when he really needs to. Sara shares that talent, but I think it's always easier to cut through somebody else's problem than to unravel your own, and for whatever reason (perhaps being male and therefore less socially conditioned to care about ageing and appearance and stuff?) I think Setsuna would be less emotionally bothered by getting weird reactions from their immortal friends as he and Sara grow old.

I had fun with the little phone and lock thing, and the music -- they are there exactly to show the passage of time! :-) Really, I should go back and edit the physical mailbox out entirely and, I dunno, change the mention of phone calls to conference videos or something, but that can wait for when I've finished the remaining seven fics in this series.
