wherein Liz remembers why she doesn't watch tv and movies

They hit me too hard, you see. It's very hard to keep any sort of emotional or critical distance -- maybe through lack of practice, or maybe because a visual experience is just more intense in some ways.

In any case, my brain and life have been hijacked by Doctor WhoSee, I'd been seeing people talk about it for three years now, and I'd sort of ( Read more... )

liz talks about personal stuff, gifts, -the way of the apartment manager, -the guardian in spite of herself, fandom: doctor who, art

Welcome to the club. Its an addiction I have had for years. Rumor has it, that they are planning to redo the old series in season box sets. But who knows how long that might take and over how much time. The older series is currently sold in story arcs instead so sometimes you end up buying them out of order. However, if you just want to see them, I would suggest blockbuster online. If you get them one disc at a time they are pretty reasonable. They have an extensive collection of the old series. I am currently up to the third doctor. I have been trying to watch them in order.

Are you also going to watch Torchwood? It's a spin (somewhat centered on Jack) of that takes place in between Doctor Who seasons 2 and 3, and the last episode slightly leads up to the last 3 episodes of season 3.

I might. Actually, who am I kidding -- of course I'm going to watch Torchwood as well.

But I think I'll try renting it first. :-)

Eeeeeeeee!!! Thank you! So cute! *sparkles at you*

(Btw, if it makes you feel any better, Naga and Kafunnokaze are both 14 years old in "Guardian," since it's set a year after "Apartment Manager" ends... *angelic smile*)

Nice drawing. I like her eyes.

As for Doctor Who - I'm still working my way through the First Doctor's stuff, but if you want to skip around, I'd recommend picking up with the Fourth Doctor in 1974. He's pretty similar in personality to the Tenth, and he's (if I'm remembering this right) pretty much unanimously been voted the most popular doctor in all those 26 years. He's got about 8 years of material to go through, too.

I am -- and this should tell you how crazy I have gone -- seriously contemplating asking my landlords if I can hook their internet service up to my computer. Which is partly because after four years or so, I've just gotten tired of the inconveniences of public computer labs... but mostly because I want to be able to download television episodes (guess which show), watch them once, and then delete them.

...

Clearly, Doctor Who has eaten my brain.
