"You probably shouldn't have said that," Edgeworth said, though he looked kind of amused. Phoenix's face was approximately the same colour as Edgeworth's best suit.
"Did he really say what I think he said?" Maya asked. Phoenix looked like he was about to run.
"He did," someone assured her. It might have been Gumshoe.
"He really said 'I'm so happy I could kiss you'? To Edgeworth?"
"Yes," Edgeworth confirmed, since, well, he'd been the one Phoenix said it to: he knew best when it came to this matter at least.
"It was a figure of speech," Phoenix began, but Pearl piped up at that very moment.
"He should keep his promises, Mystic Maya!"
"I thought you'd be on my side," Phoenix almost growled, looking down at Pearl. "Since you want me and Maya to get together."
The little girl shrugged her shoulders. Maya had a positively wicked look on her face. Edgeworth almost took a step back himself -- surely she wasn't really going to --
"Pearl's right, Nick," Maya declared. She grinned, pushing Phoenix toward Edgeworth. Edgeworth should probably have backed away at this point, but he wasn't quite fast enough and instead found himself on the floor when Maya gave Phoenix a hearty push toward him.
"Sorry," Phoenix said, wincing. Then he winced again. Maya was apparently standing on his back.
"You've got to keep your promise," she said, sweetly. Phoenix looked down at Edgeworth with something approaching horror.
Edgeworth just rolled his eyes. "Get on with it, Wright," he said, impatiently.
