"Think you're going to stick to the right side this time around?"

Seifer snorted softly. He carried his gun with a familiarity Irvine hadn't expected -- but he had his gunblade, too, hanging at his hip. "I wasn't on the wrong side last time, as far as I was concerned. As it is, I'm thinking maybe it'd be better if we had won."

"Not a fan of the new tech, I take it."

Silence. Seifer stared into the distance. After a moment, he shook the mood away. "It doesn't discriminate between the sorceress and those she's been screwing with. And it screws with their brains. It's Ultimecia's kind of tactic. It's not some humane way of doing it, no matter what Odine says."

Irvine's eyes might've been full of sympathy, but if they were, he didn't let Seifer know. He pulled his hat down to shade his eyes, moving a little to get a better look at the terrain. "We do what we have to do, I guess."

Seifer shrugged. "Don't get me wrong. I don't want this bitch to win the war, either. We need this."

He moved closer to the wall that shielded them both, taking aim at something that moved out on the burnt and blasted ground. He narrowed his eyes, pausing for a moment -- not long enough, Irvine knew, to be sure who or what he was shooting. And he pulled the trigger.
