Pigwidgeon was now helping himself to her toast.
Once Hermione starts thinking about Ron, the toast clearly goes to the birds. ;) Intentional?
“Don’t be upset. I didn’t write the letter, but... but there wasn’t anything in it that I wouldn’t write.”
This is the most important line, of course. Hermione feels terrible about her mistake, and she needs to know more than just that Ron genuinely likes her; she needs to know that none of the feelings she's had since reading the letter are misplaced or misguided. When she hears this, she knows she doesn't have to go through the letter point by point to figure out how big a fool she was; she knows instantly that even though she was tricked, she wasn't a fool at all.
She looked up again and kissed the small freckle near the corner of his mouth. She had always wanted to do that.
Ron made a small sound of surprise, but there was no hint of protest. In fact, he had wrapped an arm around her waist and drawn her in with one hand, while closing the door with the other.
