I only walk a couple of times a week, but I'm fascinated by the movement to run barefoot. I go without shoes indoors though I often wear slippers in case I step on something sharp.
I was just listening to a piece on Bob Edwards about "The Greatest Race Never Seen" and running. These were ultra-marathoners, but one thing I learned is that the arch of the foot is one of the great marvels of engineering: the speaker spoke of how no engineer would ever put a support under an arch, and with feet it's the same: arch supports degrade the strength of the human foot arch. With foot-arches, the more it's pressed, the stronger it gets, so barefoot running is the best thing in the world to strengthen them.
