Dear Ms. Stanfill,

I am sorry to inform you that . . . etc.

couldn't they say "Application to Berkeley" so it doesn't seem like they're offering me admission?

good news is that i passed the graduate admission office stage at UMASS and have been passed on to the department, whatever that means.

i got this sort of cryptic call encouraging me to apply for this fellowship, saying that they had a list of applicants they were very serious about and were trying to figure out how to fund them all, and would i look over the materials.

i mean, they were my safety school, but yay!

you know, the writer's strike might just be the best thing that ever happened to electoral politics in this country. there's nothing on but the debates, so people have to get informed.

it's just one of those things you do when you're young and stupid, and you have to live with it for the rest of your life.
