Perspective Distortion Correction

Sep 08, 2011 16:33

An interesting although not simple explaination of Perspective Distortion on Wikipedia.

Simplifying, I'll just say that any time the parallel lines in a subject appear as converging lines instead, this is Perspective Distortion.  It happens in photography when the plane of the film or sensor is not parallel to the lines in the image capture.

Here's ( Read more... )

The last image exaggerated the original distortion even more and although technically and over correction, it was opposite the original correction. I'm commenting here vice editing the post because I would have to reformat the whole post or LJ on it's current tack is not being user friendly.

That's very educational. Thanks for explaining this so well.

Nice job on the post.

A side note... the photos... after clicking them... load pretty slowly. (maybe you already know this) And... they don't fill up the entire photoshelter object. On my computer... the photo is in the top left of each photoshelter object... then there is 1.5 to 2 inches of black on the right and bottom side. (also perhaps you knew this or did it on purpose)

loading so slowly that sometimes I get a dialogue that says that LJ Toys has timed out (LJ Toys???) but if they do load, they fill the cup... using Chrome on Mac...

I blame LJ as they load fast otherwise. Thanks for the heads up.

Peace

I enjoyed this study; Even though the original photo appeared more 'correct' in perspective to me. Parallel lines aren't parallel from different points in space.

I'm fascinated by humans being obsessed with things being straight, square, level and flat. Those terms are actually an anomaly in the natural world. Being in the sign business has trained my eye to see very slight changes in how straight, square, level, and flat things are. I can see 1/16 of an inch out of square, at a distance. So I'm not immune. It's just part of my job.

The concept of level alway bothered me. The earth is shaped like an orange. How does one level an orange?

For many years, when I was away from my desk, I would line everything up parallel and square... it was in no way organized but gave the impression of such... and I garnered much attention about how organized I was... till I passed on my secret.

I am the same about discerning spaces from a distance... learned it from long hours on watch at Reactor Plant Control Panels, and electrical panels where there were lots of meters and gauges and it was important to notice trends starting as little as a degree or two on a meter that had a full scale of hundreds of degrees... I can also guess angles fairly accurately too and have won $$ guessing and then measuring...

BTW the photo was made in a studio...

the world is my studio ;)

Recently, I found out that lining things up and stacking things was a sign of autism. There might be something to that. That isn't to say that all people that line things up in straight rows are autistic. My desk is a complete mess, and always has been. It always will be. But I know where everything is, even if it's buried under a mountain of other stuff. It's my paradoxical world of organized chaos ( ... )

My organization is the same as yours - my offices look like chaos but I can close my eyes and find just about anything... I prove it to my wife all the time. My garage is the same but until recently was way overfilled with stuff I felt valuable (when I collapsed all the empty boxes I've been saving, suddenly there was 500sf available to work on the bike) When I disassembled the bike to clean the gas tank and paint the frame, I had to photograph each part I removed in order and showed the bolts/screws/washers in closeup so I could reassemble it... which is what I'm currently working on. Our house is large but when Ilene and I married, we merged her house, mine and her mothers into one home... >1000sf garage and extra bedrooms took the burnt of storage and we have been 'trying' to reduce this past dozen years with little success ( ... )
