A few days ago, I was in Bremerton to visit yurtmeister to see his spiffy new electric motor scooter and pick up the box that it was shipped in (I always need large strong cardboard for shipping large framed photos).

On my return home, I drove along the ( Read more... )

I think a lot about how great it would be to have a touring bike like that to take long road trips on to places to visit and explore and take photographs of. Sometimes I'm even tempted to do it.

But I had a friend who was killed by a drunk driver while on his motorcycle. He was an EMT and computer tech who had done some contract work in Iraq for the military and was someone who really knew how to take care of himself. I guess that's just put me off a motorcycle. If someone like that is at the mercy of someone else's poor decisions ending his life, I feel like it could just as easily happen to me. As much as I wish I could drive around the Keweenau Peninsula or down to New Orleans with the open air around me and sky above, I get along pretty well in Perseverance (Percy for short), my little Suzuki Swift.

But I sure envy you all those motorcycle trips.

Beautiful photo... I always have to hold back at sunset and see if the light is going to come back in a good way. Looks like it did.

I had a friend with a motorcycle, and I enjoyed riding with her. It never really crossed my mind about the dangers until I broke my ankle in an unrelated accident. Every time I was at the orthopedist's office, I met person after person who was there due to a motorcycle accident. I made up my mind to stay off motorcycles when a man was rolled in on a dolly(!) wrapped up like a mummy in casts and bandages. He told me he'd had 18 surgeries and had more ahead of him.

I love the freedom of being on a motorcycle, but the risk/benefits ratio doesn't appeal to me.
