'last week while making some photographs

Last week while I was in Mount Rainier National Park, I stopped on the Nisqually River bridge that crosses a short distance below the Nisqually Glacier to make some photographs. A tour bus crossed the bridge and parked to unload it's riders so they could make some photos from the bridge. I watched and then got involved myself...

I heard some crunching through the snow! Haven't heard that sound in over 4 years...until now.

Man, that's a lot of snow.

I understand the need for model releases for the images where you can recognize individuals...do you need them for the profile shots where faces are more difficult to recognize, too?

if one can recognize the person, a model release is needed for anything but editorial use. Most agencies require that if there is a person in an image, a model release is needed and some also require them even if it's someone's arm or leg or back of head. And then, some countries like France require them for any images that contain people. I don't get model releases for all people images but then the uses of non-released images are much fewer and editorial use pays much less than advertising. It's a good idea to have them with you just in case. It's just sometimes difficult to explain and convince folks to sign them especially considering what they say. Mine are fairly docile on wording but tell all that is needed. If I work with models, I'll use a more inclusive one.

Here's the wording from those I wrote to carry with me:

I hereby give to Edward J. Book the right and permission for the use and reproduction by him, or anyone authorized by him, any and all photographs which he has or will make of me, on this day for any ( ... )

Oh, very good. I rarely photograph people, so I wasn't sure what is really required. I am working on a series at the horse races, so jockeys, grooms, etc., figure pretty prominently in that work.

Would you mind if I used a release based upon yours?

no, I don't mind your using my words for the model release. You might want to Google model releases to see other varieties and property releases. You'll probably need those.

Peace
