I forgot to mention that this image will look much worse displayed on the average monitor because compressing the 25MB file to 100K and compromising between PC and Mac monitors gamma further messes with the image.

Ah, gotta add this to the list of my favorite pictures of yours. Fabulous shot. This image resonates deep down because the leaves remind me of rural Pennsylvania, and Mt. Adams has a passing resemblance to Mt. Vesuvio...
Like forioscribe this image brings back warm memories for me, and it struck me that when I took it apart in my head it has nothing to do with what it reminds me of. I thought.. oh! Donnelly's Dome! when I first saw it. That is a small naked mountain in the middle of a flat muskeg plain in central Alaska. I loved looking at it from and seeing it reflected in a couple of lakes when I was a kid out wandering around with my family. The gold fog reminds me of the muskeg in the fall. *grin*
That small hummock in the foreground is the site of the image you posted after this one, isn't it? That golden sheen coming off the water in both pictures is remarkably dense. In this one, it looks almost like a field of ripe grain.
right you are... I have made photographs at this spot before and will return to do so again... When I'm at some place and am set up with a composition waiting for the light, I more often than not, look around for other compositions. It's a time of wonder for me... a chance to look at details in things that one wouldn't normally spend more than a fleeting glance at... observations at times like these bring a wealth of knowledge of what there is to see but is often overlooked for the things that shout rather than whisper... I was observing the curves made by the tops of shadows and parallel transitions of earth and air and found it interesting how the fog tendrils rising from the lake echoed the grasses... and I added a composition the the images waiting for the magic light...
This lake is in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in the southern portion of the Cascade Mountains. It's a couple hundred miles from my home in Puget Sound.
