Adventures in Dentistry or, Vengeance of Mr. Sun

Those of you who also know me on Facebook might remember me posting some while ago that I was facing about a month's wages worth of dental work. Said sad news came as a shock to me, since I have always been able to make the honest claim that "I've never had a cavity."

No longer true, but in fact, the bulk of the work (and the uninsured costs) came ( Read more... )

dentist, cavity, random gloats, cycling

That is rather, um, odd. I once had a hygienist who tilted my head so far back that I felt dizzy (easily done as I have ataxia). She failed to correct the situation, leaving me in that wobbly state, which prompted me to later tell the front desk staff that I refused to let her work on me again.

Well, if not madness, at least into a damned "odd" situation. My sweetie (known online as "Raven") suggested last night that it was a case of two similar personalities colliding, and I suspect she's right.

My dentist said her hygienist is very strong-minded, and the same could be said of me.

And no, if they don't have someone else do scrape me during my next cleaning, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Can you not book your appointment with a specific hygienist (and someone who isnt her) ?

My cleaning visits at my dentist's practice are always booked with a specific hygienist.

Not that I ask to specify in my case, just as a matter of a booking blocks that hygienists time so it is booked with one specifically.

That's utterly bizarre. If she's willing to talk politics with a patient, she's not actually a professional. I don't care what field it's in, really... maybe barbering it's okay? But that whole "no politics, no religion" rule is one I stick to in professional situations, and if somebody else DOES NOT stick to it, I consider them less than professional.

Personally, I don't mind politics, but I don't need to be harangued. And people who take positions and then deny doing so infuriate me.

But leaving my personal preferences aside, you're right. No one who is poking things in another person's mouth or exercising any other power-over should be opining while they go about their business.

Haranguing is the worst. And in some cases I don't mind politics so much (though I'm completely souring on them as my mother has somehow morphed from this super-compassionate middle of the road person to someone who is INTRIGUED BY DONALD TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT and I'm GOING INSANE), but the situation, in my opinion, is unacceptable. It'd be like going to the gynecologist and having someone go off on politics, like, you can't get away, you're physically exposed, the whole situation is weird.

I was mightily offended and huffy on your behalf ;)
