I'd like to say with assurance that I'd have done the same if the vendor had been a burly brunette with a cop-stache, but the truth is I'm not sure that I would have.
I had a guy at my door the other week, peddling his book, "The Zen of Paddling" which was about canoes, not BDSM. He told me he was from Newfoundland where door-to-door is a recognized way to get your book into people's hands.
I did not buy it, mostly because I'm trying to empty shelves these days, not fill them.

With the state of the book business these days, why not try door-to-door.
I actually contemplated it back in the day when I was trying to peddle a print-zine, but my Inner Chickenshit put the kibosh on that fantasy pretty quick. Going table-to-table at bars was hard enough on me.

Holy moly, that name takes me back. Not sure if I ever met him (I think I did, but couldn't pick him out of a line-up today, so maybe he was just in the air), but I was aware of him at least. Now that you mention it, he might even have been an inspiration when I gave selling the zine on the street and in bars a (not-very-good) go.
