Part 2b...
Maybe it was the brandy, though he didn’t think he’d had that much to drink. Maybe the stress of the dinner had made him reckless. Maybe he was channeling a bit of Starbuck. Whatever the reason, he quietly stripped.
Lee grabbed a bar of soap and quietly wet his hands on his way over to the showers. He stopped short when he saw Kara. Her back was to the room, her face tilted up, water cascading down her body, hilighting every curve. Lee took an involuntary half-step forward.
He stopped and took a stedying breath. He was ready to turn back, until he saw Kara’s head drop.
“Gods, Lee…” He froze when she spoke his name. When she said nothing more, he made up his mind.
He tiptoed toward Kara, working the soap in his hands. He stopped within arm’s reach of her, softly putting down the soap, and stepped close enough that she’d have felt his breath on her shoulder if he’d been breathing.
As Lee placed his hand firmly on her shoulders, he breathed her name, “Kara.” He began to rub her shoulders and arms, gently preventing her from turning her body to face him. “Stay. Please,” he spoke softly as he continued to spread the lather over her back. “I owe you so many apologies…” He raised her arms up over her head, and then ran his hands down her sides, lingering beside her breasts. “I don’t even know where to begin.”
Kara brought her arms down and turned to face him. Her face registered a mix of gratitude and fear and hope that Lee would never have dreamed he would see there. “Thank you, Lee.” She offered him a small smile, and continued to hold his eyes. “So… Why are you here…?”
“I thought I…”
Kara cut him off, “No, I know, I mean, here, physically… It’s not like you hang out down here a lot, Lee.”
Lee laughed, “No, I suppose not. I just escaped from a welcome home dinner for Ellen. Just being in the same room with her makes me feel… Dirty.” He shuddered. “I made my excuses, and walked the ship for a while to clear my head.” He paused, then went on more quietly, “I was hoping to see you.” He shot Kara a pleading look.
Kara smiled back. “So you were hiding around the corner when I scared of Hotdog?” Lee blushed and nodded. “Well, we are in a shower… Maybe I can help you with that dirty feeling?”
As she reached for a bar of soap, Lee reached out and took her face between his hands. “I don’t think you need that soap, Kara…”
