Everything that was considered a necessity had been packed and set aside shortly after Shadow had left. All there was to do after that was wait for him to return, which was more difficult than it should have been. She was far slower than her friend and as tantalizing as it was to go out and fly through the barren landscape, she refrained from leaving because the view above them was still full of those horrid Keepers. Risking her life when they were getting closer to what may be the end wasn't worth it in her book. Maybe when Shadow got back they could arrange something, but for now...

She waited and slept when the need overtook her. The usual things occupied her time, though it was hard to focus on reading or checking up on things with the PDA when Shadow was out there exploring. By the time he returned, she was up and about the apartment again.

"What did you find?" she asked, a little too eagerly. He had returned hours before the limit he had set for himself, surely that must be a good sign.

Shadow came to a stop, brushing dust off his gloves. He needed a shower. Something to eat would be nice as well.

"It's dead."

The words were spoken matter-of-factly, but somewhat quieter than usual.

"The whole damned continent is dead."

He couldn't possibly mean... There had to be something left out there. The Entropi were powerful, but they couldn't be that dangerous.

"Are you serious?" It was hardly a question. Shadow wasn't one to joke and she knew it.

"There's nothing left. Not even ruins. What you see outside the compound it what it looks like all the way to the Atlantic."

This world was alien, in a way, but it was still Earth. It couldn't have looked all that different from their own world, before the Entropi came. It wasn't reasonable to think the continent was naturally desert; that the center of the world's population lay at the poles or something else unfeasible.

It was nice to have gotten to run, though.

The sudden movement and noise startled him slightly. After the somber tone of his discussion with Rouge he hadn't quite expected Tohru to rush out like thtat, and for a moment his quills went rigid on reflex, although the rest of his posture remained steady.

He walked toward her slowly, mouth set in a thin line. "There's nothing out there," he told her.

"Nothing I could find." He'd hardly had time to search the whole planet. The chances that anything had survived looked slim, but there were places in which life could take shelter from the Entropi, surely.

"We have two days until that which the Warden has warned us about will occur. Depending on what happens, I may go back out and look elsewhere," he said.

Further thoughts were interrupted by a quiet grumbling from his stomach, and he narrowed his eyes irritably, flicking his ears back. Shower first, he decided. The dust and sand and whatever else were really getting to him.
