Instead of a typed response, she got a bright flash of blue and the sudden appearance of her ally in the room. Whatever he wanted to talk about must have been important if he felt the need to disregard the PDAs.

Rouge sat up, her communicator cast aside on the bed she had been laying on, and gave him her attention.

"And it would be...?"

"He's not going to want to send us back immediately. That much is obvious. As soon as that machine is finished, I intend to do whatever it takes to get him to explain how to work it."

The assumption, of course, was that the machine wouldn't be intuitive to operate. The Warden himself had said that the intended purpose of the Consulo was as a method of reproduction for the Entropi, and the last thing he wanted was to accidentally create more of them while trying to get back. Learning how to do it properly would require the Warden's assistance, but getting the information out of him would be difficult. Equally challenging would be keeping those who wished to do the Warden's bidding at bay. They likely wouldn't appreciate the sort of treatment that might end up necessary to get the man to talk.

Rouge nodded. That sounded exactly his style and it didn't surprise her one bit that he was that driven. She had no doubts that 'whatever' entailed acts that others would consider abominable, but if it got her home, she had no qualms with it. The fact that he was so driven towards this goal was part of what made him valuable to have on her side.

"That would be the fastest way to get home, yes. Did you want me to help with that, too, when the time comes?"

"It will probably be necessary, yes. He has a handful of guardians already, and while some may prefer leaving over preserving his health, others will be less cooperative," he replied. "We may have to remove the Warden to a secure location if there are many."

In his mind, Shadow was already working out tactics for various scenarios, based on who was present and what abilities they had. There were several who had made their intentions to protect the man clear, and thankfully they had listed their skills on several of the previous organizational posts devoted to sorting the willing into teams, or categorizing the compound's inhabitants based on their usefulness. If he had to take on several of them at once, he would, but that would leave Rouge to keep the Warden secured, and the human was something of a wild card. He seemed defenseless enough, now that he had been stripped of his position, but he clearly retained some of his abilities.
