Jing's mental state had dropped fast at the news of the most recent disappearances, and Schuldig had taken immediate notice of it. It wasn't all that hard to, being as there were very few people he kept active tabs on anymore. Talking to him in his journal hadn't helped. Perhaps because Schuldig had been baiting him as much as trying to help him ( ... )

Initially, all Sasuke could do was sigh when he saw Samus disappear; vanish like many before her. He didn't like how all this was turning out. He wasn't pleased by her disappearance either. Everything around him had a very bad aura as if impending doom was incoming very shortly. He couldn't say for certain, but even the atmosphere of the compound had changed since his last stay here. Although there were many justifications for it. None of this was quite the point at the moment. His concern, or target, was Jing. Because things had bettered for him, for Uchiha, for his world. He was not about to let some irrational child hurt, resentful, and angry put his return home in danger - and Sasuke knew what it was like to lose people. He knew that pain very, very well. His entire life and strength was built on that pain and the hatred that came from it ( ... )

If Jing noticed the people waiting for him, he gave no indication. His mind was focused on the task of attempting to draw the Keepers' attention. If he'd been thinking more clearly, he would've realized that this exercise was futile at best, and dangerous at worst. But for the moment he didn't care; he was reacting, and that didn't always leave room for logical thought.

How immature... I see how letting down people who rely on you... Some alliance leader you'll be than, don't you think?

His hands tightened into fists. Talking and planning and plotting could only take them so far. If something wasn't done, there wouldn't be any alliance left to lead.

Jing saw both Schuldig and Sasuke between him and the wall. Without slowing his pace, he said uncompromisingly, "Get out of my way."

Damn, but the kid had a strong aura. Schuldig's body wanted to react to the power behind Jing's words. Of course, he'd had plenty of training to withstand things like that. All those with more cerebral powers at Rosenkruez had to go through the training, for any time they'd be up against people with more physical power or presence.

The important thing was that he made himself ignore the instinct to get out of Jing's way. Instead he countered it with an order of his own. "Stop," he said, trying to make it as final sounding as he could. He threw his mental power into sticking the command directly into Jing's brain. Which was all sorts of wonderful, being as he'd just reconstructed himself and his power last month. He'd probably have a headache after this, which would be great fun, but stopping Jing was probably more important than worrying about that.

Terribly funny, he thought, to be considering yet another person important enough to possibly injure himself. This place just didn't quit.
